Here’s another slice of life:

When I began teaching, I spent some time teaching third grade. I’ve always, always loved writing and now I got to teach writing. One day, I was talking with a friend of mine who taught first grade and we were talking about words. She asked me what my favorite word was and I didn’t have an answer. It’s hard to believe now, but I’d never thought about it. Her favorite word was…it was a long time ago, I don’t remember her favorite word. 

A few days later this same friend was telling me about a science lesson she was planning for her students. As she was explaining she calmly used the word phalanges and it was love at first sight! I found it! I found my favorite word. Phalanges!! Have you ever heard a cooler word than phalanges?!?!  

I often ask others about their favorite word. My friend Jen’s favorite word is nonchalant. My friend Kay likes the word brackish. What is your favorite word? My phalanges will stop typing now, so I can hear you answer…
